By admin | 04.22.09 | 5:07 pm

In a new television ad, the pro-same-sex marriage group One Iowa attempts to rally support for its cause by appealing to Iowans’ pride in their state and faith in its public institutions.

Justin Uebelhor, the organization’s communications director, told the Iowa Independent in an email that the ad would run for at least a week on cable stations in markets across the state and on broadcast stations in Des Moines, and that they are “planning to expand when possible.”

The term “pro-same-sex marriage” is a bit of a misnomer, since their main focus is marriage equality. This means fighting for everyone's civil marriage rights, regardless of the religious beliefs of others. The group is just fighting for people to have the right to chose to marry who they wish and not be bound by other people's beliefs in who that person should be.

The statement that this will not change Religous marriage is not true to fact

You cannot have Religous marriage without Civil marriage the next step to be expected is a law suit against some Religous institution for not performing a same sex marriage ceremony.,

Now that might not be too wise, should it happen, expect a drive for an amendment to the State Constitution and expect it to have a fair amount of support,

If it does not happen then I doubt that an Amendment would gather enough support.,

But I don;t expect the temptation to take this issue to that final step to be resisted
