Ever wondered how difficult it would be to make your own biodiesel?
Biodiesel can be made from a wide variety of fats and oils, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do it.
Farmers and city folks who are interested in learning how to make biodiesel may want to attend an upcoming workshop that is being sponsored by the Iowa Farmers Union Education Foundation.
The Biodiesel Workshop will be held Nov. 16 at Green World Biofuels near Tiffin, a small community northwest of Iowa City. Those attending the workshop will learn about biodiesel production, including equipment needs, weather issues, control testing and waste management.
Sources of oil, such as used fryer oils and oils pressed from crops, will be discussed as well. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and, according to host Steve Fugate, it will be very “hands-on.”
“Our workshops are designed to educate people who are seriously interested in biodiesel production,” said Fugate in a press release from the Iowa Farmers Union. “You will leave very knowledgeable and excited about making your own biodiesel.”
There is a fee for admission to the workshop. Those planning to attend are asked to register by calling 1-800-775-5227.
