Wednesday was a difficult day for The American Independent News Network, which is the larger entity that operates The Iowa Independent. Our chief executive and founder announced two of our sister sites would close and their content would be moved to The American Independent.
A recently introduced bill could have far-reaching impact on the U.S. sugar industry, including American Crystal Sugar, a farmer-owned cooperative that locked out 1,300 Midwest workers on Aug. 1.
The chairman for Herman Cain’s Iowa effort says the campaign “relied more on the word of farmers than Washington regulators” in deciding to run an ad containing claims the Environmental Protection Agency says are false.

When P.J. Sesker-Green met Gov. Bill Richardson two months ago at the Iowa State Fair she knew that he was the candidate for her.
At the Johnson County BBQ in Iowa City, she introduced the candidate to the hot and humid crowd. Afterwards, she told the Iowa Independent that Bill Richardson has the experience to, “turn this country around and get people working together again.”
Sesker-Green works with Operation First Response supporting “wounded heroes and their families.” Her nephew, Sgt. Daniel Sesker, was killed by an IED in Iraq.
She says she felt Richardson’s deep compassion and understanding regarding the service and sacrifice of U.S. troops, like her nephew’s, in Iraq. Richardson told her that he would bring all of the troops home.
P.J. Sesker-Green said he was the only candidate who promised her that he would bring the troops home.

In this video, P.J. Sesker-Green explains what led to her support of Richardson and she talks about her nephew, Sgt. Daniel Sesker.
