The National Journal has released its 2008 rankings of the most liberal and conservative lawmakers in Washington, and Iowa Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, has come in as the 9th most conservative (or 419th most liberal) lawmaker in the U.S. House.

Iowa’s other Republican member of Congress, Tom Latham, came in at 138.

On the Democratic side, Reps. Bruce Braley and Dave Loebsack tied as the 74th most liberal congressman, with Rep. Leonard Boswell ending up at 138 out of 435 members of the House.

In the Senate, Democrat Tom Harkin was the 27th most liberal and Republican Charles Grassley was the 19th most conservative.

The rankings were calculated using each lawmakers’ vote on 167 key roll-call votes in 2008 — 79 votes for the Senate and 88 for the House.
